Xanthorrhizol is a sesquiterpenoid isolated from the rhizome of C. xanthorrhiza. It exhibits antibacterial and antifungal activity, neuroprotective activity, and anti-inflammatory activity. It inhibits the expression of ornithine decarboxylase, cyclooxygenase-2, and inducible nitric oxide synthase at concentrations as low as 0.3 μM.
