AN2718, a novel boron-containing small molecule, is a member of a new class of antifungals, benzoxaboroles, which inhibit fungal growth by blocking protein synthesis. Initial data have suggested that it may be more effective than tavaborole for T. rubrum and T. mentagrophytes.
